Movies on the Radio the official radio show of the Big Spring Film Society has a new schedule that we just started this month...Movies on the Radio can be heard on the second and last Tuesday of every month on Kbyg 106.3 FM 1400 AM or if you don't have a radio in your house (which were starting to learn a lot of people don't) you can stream the show from www.kbygradio.com
We are still reviewing a new film every Friday morning on the Kbyg Morning Show with Smokin' Joe Murphy, Ken and Wiley McIntosh have done a INCREDIBLE job covering all the blockbusters this summer! If your interested in getting a hold of some recordings of past shows shoot me an email at cruiser1977@gmail.com and I can probably hook you up. Currently digging through all the recordings to put some podcasts together that we can probably stream right here on the website. It has been almost a year since BSFS started this partnership with Kbyg and Weeks Broadcasting and it has been instrumental in keeping the film society rolling along. Join us this Tuesday from 7-9 pm when Movies on the Radio returns to the airwaves....we have a ton of film news to rant and rave about; we are also going to discuss what we would do if we ran a major movie studio, because from the looks of the past few weeks at the box office, the sequels, prequels, and remakes are finally starting to wear people out. More music from the biggest blockbusters of all time: Titanic, Avatar, Finding Nemo, some music from Cowboys and Aliens and more!

You have probably noticed that our annual Movie on the Mountain didn't happen on our regular date this year. The FireFighter Benefit at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum was scheduled for the same evening and the last thing we needed to do was screen the film the same night, without the firefighters we might not have had a town to screen movies in after the raging wildfires from the past few months. We will be screening the Jim Henson Classic "The Dark Crystal" on top of Scenic Mountain on Saturday, September 24th. Immediately after the film we will screen a documentary about the making of the film. A lot of people have asked why we are screening this film, what made us choose to screen, "The Dark Crystal"? The Dark Crystal is a fantasy film that was completely created by human hands, back then filmmakers couldn't rely on computer generated effects to take the audience to another world. In a world where pretty much every big blockbuster out there is a cavalcade of computer generated in your face 3D effects, audiences should remember what it was like before computers revolutionized cinema. Don't get me wrong I have seen some absolutely amazing things done with CGI (does anyone remember when your jaw dropped when dinosaurs walked across the screen in Jurassic Park?), but you gotta respect the creativity and hard work of Jim Henson.

If you haven't "liked" us on Facebook yet get after it, check out the radio show this Tuesday night from 7-9 pm on KBYG 106.3 FM or stream at www.kbygradio.com, and come join us September 24th on top of Scenic Mountain for a HD presentation of "The Dark Crystal".
