If you didn't already know, we will be meeting every Tuesday at 8pm in the Comanche Trail Amphitheater preparing for our Raiders of the Lost Ark event. We still have plans to transform the amphitheater into something right off the screen from Raiders, so if your interested come join in the fun. We met back on June 1st in the Hall Center for the Arts and discussed the election of our board and officers, the experience I had at the Marfa Film Festival, and where we are going with the film society.

Just a quick note to let everyone know we will be meeting in the Hall Center for the Arts on the Campus of Howard College, Tuesday, June 1st, at 7pm. We will be discussing the Raiders event, the Marfa Film Festival and etc. . I will also be screening an experimental short I grabbed a copy of while I was in Marfa.

If you live in the village of Big Spring you might have heard that the BSFS received a grant from the Convention and Visitors bureau to help cover costs for our two outdoor screenings coming up this summer. I want to thank Debbie Wegman and Troy Tompkins for helping me apply for this grant, without them none of this would have been possible. The grant will allow us to focus more on making these events a great experience for all who attend.

The roads were flooding, and we had to take a kayak, but it didn't stop us from having our second meeting! We had about 15 people show up for the meeting: which may seem small but we had 4 new faces show up interested in the progress of the film society and ready and willing to help. I was excited to announce the involvement of the Convention and Visitors Bureau with our organization. We are currently in talks to receive funding for the summer outdoor film series as well as other projects.

On April 15th drop your taxes in the mail and head over to the Hall Center for the Arts on the campus of Howard College for our 2nd meeting of the Big Spring Film Society. If you have something you'd like to screen (that is on dvd) that isn't longer then 7-8 minutes and doesn't include something that will appall everyone, bring it along to share. We will be discussing more organization, where we are going, and the Raiders of the Lost Ark event coming up July 9th. We also need to make the final decisions on the Indiana Jones short film contest.

Just wanted to drop a note that we are not meeting March 25th...be watching for a date by the end of this week. Spring break and a bout with a cold been slowing things down a bit..

Sorry folks, the website was down for a few days due to some server issues, but as of right now we are up and rolling again. The meeting we had scheduled for this past Thursday was postponed due to a lot of conflicting events: mostly because the snow shut everyone down this week and a lot of things had to be moved around. I'm looking tentatively at March 25th for the next meeting, but I'll let everyone know as soon as we set that date in stone. There are also some changes going on with the summer movie screening schedule as well.
